- cable box to TV = component (grn/blue/red, red/white) (avoids copy protection issues vs HDMI)
- DVD/VHS player to TV = HDMI (allows upscaling)
- cable box to DVD/VHS recorder = composite (yellow, red/white) - (have the option of S video)
